Trip Itinerary

Day 1:

We took an early morning flight from Bangalore to Udaipur. Upon arrival to Udaipur at around 9.30AM, we started to Kumbhalgarh. The road to Kumbhalgarh is pretty bad as the road widening work is ongoing. The distance from Udaipur Aiport to Kumbhalgarh is around 100 kms and should typically take 1.5 hours but due to the bad road it took more time for us. The only good thing about the whole journey is that the scenery along the road is beautiful with majestic hills (Aravalli Range) covered in greenery. Kumbhalgarh is a green wonderland in the desert state of India – Rajasthan. We came to know from our driver that the Mewar regions (Chittorgarh, Udaipur and Kumbhalgarh) receives good rainfall and farming is done in the region for wheat, jowar and other vegetables & there is sufficient water.

After a tiring journey, we reached Kumbhalgarh by 1.30 pm. We had lunch at the hotel and relaxed a bit and started to Kumbhalgarh Fort by 4pm.

Attractions:

  • Kumbhalgarh Fort – This Fort has the second largest wall in the world after Great Wall of China.

  • Zipline – Personally we dint try out the zipline but we saw some enthusiasts trying this.

Ticket Cost for Indian Citizen:

  • Fort Entry: 30 Rs/- per person

  • Light and Sound Show: 177Rs /- per person

Stay:

We stayed at the Kumbhalgarh Fort Resort and found this property very nice as it gives a vintage and royalty feel. The view and location of this resort is exceptional and the hotel staff are courteous and well behaved.

Recommendations:

Visit the fort after 4PM & stay for the Light and sound show which happens after sunset every day except on rainy days.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 2 and Day 3:

We travelled from Kumbhalgarh to Udaipur on the second day and stayed in Udaipur for the next 2 days. Udaipur is a city of lakes Lake Pichola to Lake Fateh Sagar are in the middle of the city which adds to the city’s beauty. This city has a good restaurants, cafes and numerous hotel options in all budget ranges for stay.

Attractions:

  1. City Palace - Very well maintained and is definitely worth a visit. Takes about 2-3 hours.

  2. Neemach Mata Ropeway and Karni Mata Ropeway - We tried Neemach Mata ropeway which gives an aerial view of the Fateh Sagar and Udaipur. The view from above is really nice and is definitely worth the visit. We heard Karni Mata Ropeway gives an aerial view of the Lake Pichola and Udaipur and is equally good.

  3. Sukhadia circle and Saheliyon ki Bari are quick visits for the fountains & gardens

  4. Sajjangand monsoon palace - We did not visit here due to time constraints but we heard from friends that it needs more maintenance.

  5. Boating in Lake Pichola and Fateh Sagar lake

  6. Restaurants to try:

    • Lake Pichola Hotel - Totally worth to go here for a romantic rooftop dinner.

    • Qalaa - The painting inside the restaurant is very nice and the food is decent.

    • Khamma Ghani - This restaurant is pleasant and is just beside the lake Pichola. Recommended to go in the afternoon.

Stay:

We stayed out the Swaroop Vilas Hotel. We found it be clean and good.

Ticket Cost for Indian Citizen:

  • City Palace – 450Rs /- per person

  • Boating in Lake Pichola – 800 Rs /- per person

  • Speed Boat in Lake Fateh Sagar – 236 Rs /- person

Recommendations:

Can try boating in Fateh Sagar compared to Lake Pichola if looking for budget options as boating in Fateh Sagar is cheaper

Day 4:

We started from Udaipur to Chittorgarh in the morning. Road is nice, it is a 6-lane national highway. We reached Chittorgarh fort by 12PM & one good thing about Chittorgarh fort is that we are able to visit all places inside the fort by car So, very less walking compared to other forts. The fort is as such not renovated hence it has ruins that are left after the invasions from Mughals.

Attractions: Maharani Padmini Palace, Rana Kumbha Palace, Fateh Prakash Palace - Government Museum, Vijay Stambh.

Recommendations: Visit the Fateh Prakash Palace - Government Museum first (Extra 22Rs ticket per person) & then see all the places around.

Ticket Cost for Indian Citizen:

40 Rs ticket per person for fort entry

Final Say:

This was a short and leisure trip for us. If you want to cover more places to be covered in Rajasthan like Jaipur and Jodhpur then travel will be more. So, plan accordingly.

Approximate Cost of the Entire Trip(except Flight tickets) was Rs 20,000/person which covers food, stay and travel for 4 days.

Shopping and Souvenirs:

Zinc and silver jewelry in Udaipur, Sarees and Bedsheets ( Heard they are cheaper in Jaipur compared to Udaipur)

Food to taste:

  • Ghewar and Kachori at JMB (Jagdish Misthan Bhandar)

  • Dal Batti Churma, Ker Sangri and Bajra roti at local restaurants

Food for Thought/Learnings:

  1. Udaipur Airport is well equipped to entertain tourists. Rajasthan has 7 airports and all the tourist places like Jaipur, Udaipur and Jodhpur have airports, probably best equipped state to handle tourism

  2. Rajasthan has two regions mainly : Mewar region and Marwar region

    • Mewar region consists of Udaipur, Chittorgarh and Kumbhalgarh which were ruled by the Rajputs and is surrounded by Aravalli range. This region receives good rainfall and the people grow wheat, corn and barley.

    • Marwar region consists of Jodhpur, Jaisalmer and lies in the shadow of Aravalli range hence receives very less rainfall and is part off the Thar Desert. People from this region generally migrate to the south and are well known for the business they set up.

  3. Visiting the places on offseason/weekdays makes you feel like the kings and queens as you are only guests in that hotel and hospitality will be at its best. Do you agree?

  4. Lake Fateh Sagar is cleaner than Lake Pichola at least from a tourist point of view. I was wondering the cause behind this. Lots of temples on the bank of Pichola, so just a thought crossed my mind! Is it really good to throw flowers and pooja items into the lake or a river
